Something else worth mentioning, is that if you're going to make a patch for an area, it's a good idea to cut the corners off. Just snip 1/4 inch or so off of each corner. That way, instead of having 4 / 90 degree angles, you have 8 45's. A sharp corner is more likely to peal up.
