Add lightness! Take out all the parts you don't need for THAT race!
The one's you must have, use the minimum amount of material.
The lighter plane has a bit less drag.
Move the c.g. back as far as you can stand..
That also cuts trim drag.
But if there's turning involved... you will have to outfly him.
