I hook the plug to a glow driver and pull the element out while it is glowing so that it is a bit softer and less likely to break. I keep a small piece of music wire with a small hook in it to do the deed.

There was a company a few years back that said they were going to make a turbine plug, but I never saw any thing show up, and I can't remember their name.
