I'm wanting to build a Pennzoil Super Chipmunk as my 3rd plane. As of yet, I'm still undecided as to which way to go as to a Kit, an ARF or manufacturer, although I'm leaning ever more towards the KMP Fiberglass version (especially now after reading the discussions going on in your threads). Although the Goldberg kits are known for their high quality, I'm leaning towards KMP for the looks. I don't like the square fuselage or the spindly looking landing gear on Goldberg Super Chipmunks. The Kondor fuse is round (fiberglass) and more scale looking, the KMP version's gear has a much stouter look, and those Ryan STA style wheel pants really set it off. I've been shopping around hard to see what can be learned on the Super Chipmunks, and I've come across a lot of information, some of which may be of interest to you. Unfortunately it won't be of immediate help in answering your questions regarding your friends 74" version, but depending how far you wanted to pursue it, it could be a step in the right direction.
I've found there are two European builders (could be others) who make (or used to make [Jamara]) the Super Chipmunk:
1. Jamara Modelltechnik; Germany:
http://www.jamara.de/d/start.shtmland
2. Flair Products Ltd; England:

It appears that your friends 74" version could have been manufactured by Flair Products Ltd, if so it looks to be now discontinued. If you click the link below it'll return a reference to a 70.8" Super Chipmunk at Al's Hobbies, again in England. Apparently Al's Hobbies once sold a 70.8" wingspan, but the website currently reflects only the 1460mm (57.5") version:

If you're interested, here's a review of Flair Product's 1460mm (57.5") Super Chipmunk written by a member of the South Wales Radio Control Society:

Your friend's a lucky guy, the Flair version looks really sweet and it appears that Super Chips with 70"+ wingspans are but a thing of the past..., but I'm still looking.
Should anyone (including Mr. Kondor) have information they'd like to pass on regarding the Super Chipmunks, Arfs, Kits or Manufacturers... please do, I'm open to everything - thanks!
Good Luck!
