I did not use the aluminum back plate...it's heavy, and that's less weight in the front of the plane. On the original Ultra Stick 120, that's what they recommended...substitute a quarter inch ply plate to fit the front of the plane. There's another guy in our club with an original Ultra Stick...he's not using the aluminum back plate, and it's been flying for a couple of years now...
