Default RE: Thunder tiger 60 Staudacher 300s

mine is sitting in my closer waiting to be built. i plan on starting later in the year.

a couple of things that i will be changing are the firewall structural strength and landing gear structural strength. i'll be adding pieces of 45 degree cut sticks (not balsa) in strategic locations to beef these areas up.

instead of using a "y" connecting rod for the elevators, i may mount a coupler instead.

i'm not sure about the split aluminum landing gear supplied with the kit and i may use a solid one or even carbon fiber if cost isn't an issue.

let's see, what else..... well, the covering on mine has quite a few wrinkles on it. i may just strip off the covering and do my own scheme anyways. i did this to my 4*60 that i recently built and it looks pretty sharp.

the engine.... prolly a YS110. i considered an RCS140 lightweight gasser but it's a pound heavier than the nitro equivalent and the wing loading would come in at around 32 oz/ft^2 - too much. i can put a YS110 on there with a 15x8 prop and have around 13 pounds of thrust for what will prolly be a 9-10 pound plane. just about right. i was hoping the gasser would work in order to save fuel costs big-time but no-go.

i heard the center of gravity is incorrect in the manual so i'll place stuff forward like the batteri e s and Rx and make adjustments from there with flight time. better to be nose heavy t ha n tail heavy on a maiden voyage - hehehehohhahahaaaâ„¢
