A NiMH battery should be between 120 and 130 degrees F when it is done charging from zero to full capacity. Immediately after the charge, the temperature will climb another ten degrees or so.

The battery should be comfortable to hold for a few seconds but not forever.

If your battery falls into this temp range, and this is the first time it got this hot, then this is the first time it took a fully charge.
