Default RE: Kimbrough molded couplers

Hello

Yes we have used the RDS system for our F-15, F-18 and Gripen rudders. We used the stock Kimbrough molded couplers, and the IFR machine works aluminum setup.

The IFR system is very solid with the aluminum pieces and you can tighten the set screws without fear of stripping the threads. Although I have not had any problems with 3/32” wire and the stock setup, as long as you are very careful threading in the set screws.

As far as flutter it has been very good on our airplanes. The airplanes that I have installed it on have had recessed trailing edge pockets that the leading edge of the rudder has fit into. ( scale type hinge line ) I have not experienced flutter with the system, it has also proven to be very slop free as long as you are very careful how you install it to begin with.

The F-15 shown has a SimJet 3000 in it and has been flown about 40 times. We have had no issues with the performance of the RDS.

Yes I would say go ahead. But if you could practice on another airplane or rudder that you could build that might help. My RDS installs really improved after I did one and understood how it went together in better detail. Feel free to contact me if you need some help with it. You can reach me at [email protected], I can give you my cell # if you want.
