Don't get the Delphi.

It's a great little car, fun to bash, etc. You would have a blast with it.

However, once you get into onroad cars, you will realize that it's boring to just drive around the parking lot...there is no point.

The point of these cars is to race...even if it's just against yourself. To put them on a track and try your stuff. The Indy car is not something you can race with or that would be competive if you could.

Get a car that will let you grow. You may think you don't care about racing (I didn't, when I got my first on-road car), but you will.

The TC3 is very competetive and Tower carries all the parts. Most LHS have them. However, the TC3 has serious design flaws when it comes to durability. I have never seen a TC3 not break at a track. Not once. Every time I go, at least one TC3, usually more, will break something.

The Losi XXX-S is just as competetive. Tower does not carry the parts. Most LHS do have them. However, the Losi XXX-S is as durable as it is fast, and an extremely good handler. It is a car that will take you as far as you want to go, and is great fun to bash with because it has a sealed belt that can't pick up stones and jam up (the only flaw of the belt drive system - shaft drives do not have higher top speed...it's a myth).

Personally, I race an HPI Pro 4 (shaft drive), but that's not exactly RTR (over 300 bucks just for the kit with no body or wheels). It wasn't my first car. Like you, I just wanted something to have fun with on my own, so I bought an HPI Super RS4 electric (belt drive). I loved the car, but when I took it to the track they said I couldn't compete with it (it's 1/9th scale). So I put it on the track just to have fun, and found out it was too big for the little indoor electric tracks, too fragile to get smacked by a heavy nitro car on the outdoor tracks.

I don't regret getting it...I love the thing and have great fun running it with 8 cells and a 7 turn double in a parking lot (okay, not yet...but it's in the works) However, if money is an issue, get the one car that you will never need to replace. I believe that car is the Losi XXX-S...the best bang for the buck in the RC world today. I don't own one, so my opinion is impartial.
