I had the motor shut off on my Rookie once. I don't know about the glide to much because I was slow and on final with the gear down. In that configuration it didn't glide to well, but I think when it is on step it should give you a little time to find a place to land. Fly the flane and pull the throttle to idle. You still make thrust at idle but you will be really suprised on how long it will glide there. Or you can get the plane moving a little and shut the motor off... let me know how it goes!
