RE: O.S. 46LA vs 46FX. For Trainer & 2nd.plane
If you are a beginner, look at the Evolution .45 trainer engine. You won't ever have starting or tuning problems with it. It also has a lot of power. The price is good. You can put 2 bladed props on it.
I have a .46 FX and I hate it. It is almost impossible to tune it so that I don't deadstick at least once a day. The best guys at the field keep trying to tune the high/low ends and I still deadstick after lengthy idle periods in the air. I have a plane that won't slow down for landing unless I go to idle somewhere around the turn from downwind to base. Go arounds usually means a 50% chance of it quitting, so I know that I had better nail down the landing beginning on downwind. I love glow, but if this were my first engine as a beginner I would have gone electric.
