I do not understand why PCM would scare you? I am also not familar with IPD operations. I feel that the radio problems that are mostly seen are builder and/or operator induced and can be corrected. Then again I have had only one radio failure (transmitter) and unexplained glitching (same radio) in almost 30 yrs of hard flying.

I know that not all my set ups have the same range ability. You need to find the minimum safe range required for the equipment and yourself.
