My 'instructor' isn't an official club instructor pilot, but he's more than qualified as far as I'm concerned, and the club has no problem with it per se. However, he's not able to award me my 'wings'. So when I'm ready, I just arrange to have an instructor observe me do the required solo pattern, and I'm golden. Make SURE you can't do this at your club before you give up on them.
