Default RE: Nexstar 4-stroke

ORIGINAL: rob6894

Can you put a 4-stroke in a nexstar. I ask because I love the sound of a 4-stroke. Also how large an engine could you put in a nexstar. Would the nexstar perform better with a 4-stroke and larger engine.

Thanks
The short answer is yes, you can put a 4 stroke in that plane with minor modifications. A DECENT (Saito, OS ) 56 - 70 size 4 stroke will give equivelant or better performance than the 46 2 stroke.

The BIG QUESTION is WHY ????

Yes, 4 strokes sound nice, but they cost about twice what a 2 stroke does. In addition, to set them up PROPERLY, you will need a tach. 4 strokes also require periodic maintenance. Depending on the brand of engine and the percentage of nitro in the fuel and the prop, you will need to figure ABOUT 15% - 25% more cubes will be needed to equal the performance of a 2 stroke.
