Default Madness

Hi Mats,

When I first got the plane, I was highly disappointed in the roll rate and the knife edge of the plane. In fact, I hung it in the shop for a few months.

All the planes that I enjoyed flyn didn't have wingtips on them. So, the following weekend, I brought the plane out and flew it several times and in pure frustration I decided I needed to do something with the plane. You could have bought it from me CHEAP that day. I took an xacto knife and cut the tips off, so the last rib became the wing tip. Took some clear tape and sealed it off. Flew the plane and BAMB!!!!!!! I liked it, I really really liked it. It rolled much better and faster. It did not couple in knife edge near as bad as it did. I just felt it flew much better.

A buddy of mine has a Laser 3D. Built stock and he didn't like it at all. I flew it and thought the same thing. We did the same thing, cut the tips off and life got better.

I know it reduces the wing span a bit, however I have not seen any reduction in flight characteristics in the plane. I can spot land it where ever I want and with some wind do suicide slides and stationary point rolls.

I am running a YS45 and the battery pack behind the rear bulkhead mounted to the floor.

If you are going to just fly the plane around and do rolls and loops and some hovering stuff, the wingtips may not make a difference to you, however if you are unhappy with how it flys, cut the tips off and see how you like it. You could always put them back on if unhappy.
