RE: Top Flite 182 conversion to 182T
Okay, okay guys, here are pictures of my seats for the Great Planes Cessna ARF. The model’s stock interior, if left alone, looks like the inside of a canoe!! I am covering this all with cardboard which remains flexible and can be removed to enable me to get to the radio gear. I had to come up with some scale "looking" seats so I decided to try my hand with some construction foam. I found that I could sand it without it crumbling to bits.
First I drew a pattern on paper of the general layout of the seat sections (See photo of the real thing). Then I drew this on to a foam block. I then sanded the general perimeter shape. Most full-scale seats have a gentle concave shape so I used a large closet rod with sandpaper to round the centers out. I carefully cut each seat’s section apart and continued to sand and round these edges. Then I glued them back together with RC 56 canopy glue.
I did all of this rather quickly so there is a little unevenness with this first attempt as I am not building up a precision scale model, after all I started with an ARF……good only for fun scale contests! But, note their weight on the scale……..next to nothing.
The model is being redone in Millenium colors and with flaps. I will post more pictures of the plane after this weekend.
