Hahahaha! I think they use "mates" when talking about friends, and blokes for god knows! I have heard both used on one person once from one of my co-workers.
As far as C/F parts are concerned, I stay away from those like the black plague! If I were to be seen with one, I must have bought it when I was severely drunk and vomiting chunks of C/F! HAHAHAHA! BLOODY MARVELOUS SIGHT IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN!!
