If I may; ALL servos suffer from centering issues for ganged servo installations. Less the programmable series offered by HiTec such as the 56**,59**, 5735's and more.

Of course you can obtain 30 servos and find a handful that may meet your needs.

"Centering" is generally defined as the ability of the servo to return to the same position repeatably.

The other "CENTER" issue is where the servo is centered as received from the manufacturer. i.e., when the servo arm is in place how well does the arm line up with the servo case in a 90 degree plane to the servo case. You'll find that ALL servos run the gammut here. Hitec offers programmable servos to address this. JR is offering the Matchbox and there are other manufacturer's with similar device's to correct the center issue. This problem is primarily an issue with ganged short coupled servos. Where you are unable to move the servo center with sub-trims and or multiple mixes and channels are not available for this purpose.

Possibly your attributing centering problems with servos other than the programmable units offered by HiTec, such as there earlier versions of the 605 and 615 which have been upgraded to newer models and have addressed these problems. Fact is there is some compromise in dollars to servo accuracy. The reason these 6** series servos are so popular is the cost, speed and power. Again none other offer this package at this price...


I have used all the servos mentioned some with better results than others. The problems we have realized with the metal geared servos offered by Futaba and JR have been relative to undesirable gear train slop in short order. Some are getting better results than others.

As with all products there is a learning curve, the application of these high power, ganged servos for use with Giant Scale has provided a testing bed that all the major players have learned from. HiTec has addressed it in the development of there programmable Digital servos, JR's 8411 Digital's and other's have had many problems with motors, top caps and gear sets, Futaba has there share of problems as well... Airtronics makes very good high speed, high torque analog servos that have proven themselves over the years. There expensive but hold up very well. I believe Airtronics has been offering these types of servos longer than others and has had the time to perfect them...

What power package are you going to install in your Edge? You may want to use a pull-pull system in the bell y for rudder or push-pull system Dependant upon your power choice.

I would recommend at least 100oz. servo's plus for all surfaces and do not skimp on the throttle servo, you don't need the power but you do want a precision servo. Such a lower power analog
coreless or a digital. Many use a cheap servo here and that's a no-no...

I have been using the HiTec 59** series successfully on many Giant Scale models of late. I am very satisfied with the performance and believe the programmable features is the answer for our needs. Simple effective and a one time purchase of a Programmer addresses all future needs.
