I read an old thread on the H9 Edge540 this morning. I think I recall you having a Moki 1.80, or a Moki 2.10 in one of these planes. If so, would you please recomend one or the other for the Edge. I know, for example, that the 2.10 is only 5 oz heavier than the 1.80. I'm interested in doing IMAC and freestyle/3D. I just bought a used 540, and am saving for an engine. Thanks for your help.
Actually either one would work really well. The 1.80 would be perfect and the 2.10 would have unlimited vertical. I'd say you could hover at 1/2 throttle with the 1.80 and 1/4 to 1/3 with the 2.10. With the 2.10 you'd want to reinforce the firewall. The 1.80 will have a 18-20 inch diameter prop and the 2.10 will have a 20-22 inch if clearance is an issue. The extra weight is not worth worrying about since an ounce in the tail will offset that extra 5 ounces the 2.10 has. Chances are the 2.10 will balance better like a gas engine, they always balance better (no nose weight needed). It just depends how experienced you are too. Having all the power on hand with the 2.10 will take some good judgement on the throttle. Go to idle on the downlines!!! [8D]
BTW, I would not recommend gas engines for this size plane, just too heavy. Typically a pound more than glow.
