Default RE: VQ P-61 flown again

Oh So Worthy One
Lets not forget that we were getting ready for me to take a turn at the stick and in fact I was reaching out my hands just as the motor quit.

Now either that means that the gremlins dont like me or they wanted to stick it to you. I will choose the later, of course.

As I was at work (LHS) when I quickly started the thread I do want to reassert the impression of my flight experience as one that is completely satisfying.

Now lets not forget that the P-61 is a night fighter and in its proper coloring there is no discernible graphics to help you to keep orientation, but guess what, you dont need it to be able to fly this bird.

In trying a roll the first try was purposefully done without down elevator being added.

The second try was with the down elevator being added when the was on its back and it made a very nice straight roll.

The third try was a slower roll and it did it just as nice and was very easy to control and execute.

Loops were able to be varied nicely, now let me also inform you folks about the power system. This is rated to be a 60 size twin and it is that without any problems here in the Jurassic Park (Houston) relationship of about 100' above sea level. The prototype is being flown at half throttle most of the time as the motors are 90 size Supertigers.

I would like to say that after seeing the way this flew with an engine out and its look in the air, it has replaced the status of the P-38 as my favorite plane. It is very solid in the air and was easy to flat turn and keep in easily under control.

For those wondering about transportation, it is transported in an older Aerostar with the pod and both booms assembled.

I hope that I get another try at a flight.
