Chuck, All great comments. All taken positively. High altitude is a real issue and not one easy to fix. Lower wing loaded models would really scare me from a structural integrity point of view. I'd be afraid that they would start coming apart in the air unless the pilot was very experienced and really took it easy on it.
Probably not the answer you want to hear, but 3D flying is always going to be less successful at higher altitudes.
