RE: Just buy vintage..
I have a Superstar EP electric and Avistar 40 at home waiting to fly (stay with me here). Spent winter on a flight simulator, dusted off my Futaba radio. First radios were a World Engines Expert and Kraft systems. I have not built a model plane in 15+ years. Got the rc bug with my first issue of American Aircraft Modeler (December 1973), the cover featured Bob Violett's (BVM) 60 pattern plane Shrike. I still have the plans 31 years later, even though the fibreglass fuselage is unavailable. Maybe one day I will learn how to lay up a fibreglass fuselage. Had a sweet stick, falcon 56, kadet and sig kougar. Watched the senior pattern members fly dirty birdies, mach one's, saturns, Curare's. Etc. I just purchased plans for the Minare. Used google to translate the German to English.
I want to in the next few years, I hope to fly some of those models I saw as a teenager. ARF's are nice, I still get pleasure from building.
Happy Flying
