It sounds like a servo might be binding a little bit. The best advice at this point that I can give you is to take your plane to the field on the Tuesday training session and let an experienced flier look it over. He will show you how to fix the servo, measure the control surface throws and generally give you some tips on plane set up. Take the manual along with you. As for what tools you need I recommend again to talk to the trainers. They can tell you what you really need so you won't waste money. Starting out I wouldn't buy a lot. Chances are someone at the field will let you borrow something if you don't have it.

I could sit and tell you what to do but it will sink in better if someone goes over it with you and shows you hands on how to set your plane up.
