the way the esc fries it to much volts to the esc the motor only puts out what you put in so no a motor cant fry your esc unless ofcourse you put to many volts of batt power to the esc.. hope i helped good luck!
What about amp draw? My guess is that you don't own a Mini-Z or if you do, you haven't tried something like a PN Racing S04 or NML motor. By the way, there is no voltage cutoff on a Mini-Z ESC and the ESC is part of the PCB. In other words, there is not a separate ESC and receiver.
