Default RE: Serious accident

Since this thread is dealing with the subject of safety, I want to pose a question.

After owning a plane for several years, at what point do we consider replacing components such as servos, receivers, etc. After all, these devises can't be expected to last forever, right? As far as I know, the manufacturers of the radio equipment don't give any advice as to when we should either replace the servos, transmitters, receivers, or send them in for routine maintenance. So, even if we do all the pre-flight checks, inspect the plane, etc. the older the equipment gets, the higher the chance for some type of failure. Does anyone know of any recommendations or guidelines regarding either replacing or servicing the electronic radio equipment including servos, transmitters and receivers?

It would also be nice to have a seperate forum dedicated entirely to topics related to safety.
