Quick update--I found what is, for me, the near-perfect solution. It has a flip-top compartment in the lid, an o-ring seal, a removable tray, and room enough for everything if I let a quart bottle of fuel lay on its side. I'm going to velcro a field battery to the floor of it and affix some banana jacks or a micro power panel.
