The CC controllers do not need the usb kit to use them. They can be programmed manually if you want to program them. The instructions that come with them tell how. The usb kit makes it a lot easier though.
The Phoenix controllers are for brushless motors only.
For brushed motors get the Pixie. The Pixie 20 for your plane.
So when you do go brushless you'll then need the Phoenix.
