OK so the clear film cleared away then eh. Ok then what I would do is get a piece of cloth and soak it a bit with fuel and scrub the surface gently. I found this works because below my plane where the exaust is directed at with all this oil going through the covering, the covering can peel off easily. Especially that the thicker clear film is taken out, its no longer fuel proof.
