I've noticed that also, but it seems to work fine on the planes at the local RC club. I have not started on my plane yet. But this is the one the local guys use and recommend. I agree, it would be nice if the base was just a bit wider and would go from side to side on the fuse. To me anything that will "return to orig shape" after a not so soft landing will be better than a bent and out of alignment aluminum gear.
