I use one of the Radio Shack adapters and haven't had a problem. I wired the back of my truck with a power outlet and it works great with my Dymond ST.

MTF, I found out that my air pump pulls a lot more amps. Was filling my retracts and blew a 6 amp fuse. Went with 10 amp and all is good.
