Jim,

If you're looking for those "three flip starts", then solder the hole in the choke plate shut.

The problem is that these carbs are not really meant to be on engines that are flipped over by hand... So while the perforated choke plate may work well on a pull start engine, it will generally "suck" when hand flipped. This is because you can develop a much higher engine speed while pulling a starter cord, than you can when flipping by hand. So when hand starting, the hole prevents you from getting fuel to the carb and into the engine... and no fuel = no go...

Dar is right on the fact that these things will not stay running with the choke closed... this is not an auto engine... the choke only serves to prime the engine.

My 1.60 will run within 5 flips... guaranteed... even on a dry carb... but only if I close off the choke plate hole with my thumb to prime the engine.

Hot starting shouldn't take more than a flip or two. My 1.60 usually starts on the first flip when still warm... if it doesn't I close the choke (and the hole), and flip the prop once... most of the time that is enough to get it going again.

You said that your other engine ONLY need 10 to 15 flips to start... to me even THAT seems like a lot of work! I'd be packing up my stuff and going home if I had to flip a prop 50 times to get an engine going...
