Default First flight with Hanger 9 T-34 mentor

I decided to fly my Hanger 9 T-34 mentor yesterday as it was a perfect day to fly (not too much wind). I did all my pre-flight checks and everything was good to go, as i have not flew this plane before i got a friend to take it up for the first flight. we taxied the plane to the end of the runway and started the take off roll my friend got plane off the ground only for the left wing to drop, he used full right aileron to pull back level but it was too late the plane hit the ground with the left wing tip and cartwheeled. fortunately there was very little damage, the tail cone came off and their was a bit of covering torn and a small crack in the wing tip. everything else was OK. now i am trying to think what went wrong, all i can think of is he never had enough airspeed causing the wing to stall. if Any of you have flew this plane and have any advice i would be grateful
