RE: 3d for a builder
The Exclusiv Modellbau Funtana Pro is a decent quality kit...the wood is of the highest quality. The construction is pretty straightforward if you're a good builder, but at times (most times) I believe the design is overly complex.
The CA Extras are decent kits and excellent flying planes. They are a great value since all of the surfaces are pre-sheeted balsa / foam with laser-cut fuselage pieces. The fuselage goes together very quickly. I disagree with CA's hingeline methods (takes too long to build), and would prefer to have a sheeted belly pan like the Carden and Aerotech planes, but I still LOVE my 31% CA Extra with a ZDZ80 single. I haven't had the chance to fly it very much, and the engine is still too new for any very serious 3D work but the initial impressions are EXTREMELY favorable. Superb at IMAC-type flying AND 3D.
I'm going to get my hands on some Carden Edge plans and will scale one down to use a DA50 / pipe. My aim is to combine my favorite aspects of the construction techniques of the Carden, Aerotech, and CA planes into a 85-90" plane that tips the scales at around 16-17 lbs...and fits into the back of my Tundra Limited with the tailgate up.
