William:

If you don't want to balance on the wings, the original 1999 Liebetrau/Wilcox instructions for the HS were 5 1/4-5 1/2" back from the leading edge of the wing root on the fuselage.......comes out to the identical spot measured on the wings......

My current old HS with 250 flights or so on it is at 4 3/4" back from the leading edge.....I do snaps, inverted spins, and hovers, and you need it that far forward to get the nose to drop out of a flat spin......

Barry's throws are what I have been using as well.... but on high rate, to get a smoking roll rate, I use 3/4" aileron with 40% expo to soften the center.....

Be sure to glass the fins.....I used 1 oz cloth......I also added another 1/4" doubler plywood block and a 3 mm C/F plate for the nose gear plate, with generous triangular hardwood gussets to the sidewalls....I fly off grass, and the HS, like Roo's can get a hopping, and it is much easier to beef up rather than repair a torn out gear plate.....the main gear plates on the newer kits have been beefed quite solidly.....I use Robart 630 retracts with Robart struts and BVM wheels/brakes..

I have my RX battery, a lithium, up front, lateral to the gear well, with my airtanks up in the nose.... and a lithium ECU pack tie-wrapped to the aft bulkhead, just in front of the gear blocks......

All 3 of my Spots have used 8411's, one on each elevon, and the tiny Volz Wing-Maxx servos for the rudders.....definitely no need to split the elevons and use 4 servos like some guys have done, IMO.....
