RE: Funtana 90s ideal engine !!!
I just happen to have this ST2300 w/Perry pump/carb setup and Slimline muffler laying around waiting for an airplane an low and behold, mamma got me an early X-mas present.
I am going to use a 17x6 wood Zinger for starters. Havn't seen any post of people using this engine but if they can run a Saito 1.80 surely this ST2300 would be just about right. I have to modify the engine mount to fit this wide of crankcase and the rest of it looks pretty generic from there. Reinforced the aileron rib and hard mount and am going to go with double wire diamond on the stab to keep it from flexing. All up seems to be a well engineered kit. My firewall will need to be pinned and reinforced also. I can see day light between the firewall and box side. I am using a set of Bolly c.f. FAI large gear and with the light weight foam wheels is 1.5 oz lighter then the smaller and more flimsy alum gear and rubber wheels it comes with. These Bolly gear are very forgiving yet spring back every time and they dampen rough terrain very well plus I will be able to use up to an 18" prop with plenty of clearance.
The OS 1.60 will have to have the fuel tank behind the firewall with good muffler pressure for good consistant runs.
I had to get a Dave Brown 1.20 size mount for my engine as the stock set are to narrow. The OS is even wider then the ST and
would require using the supplied mounts and redrilling the mounting holes. The OS 1.60 would certainly be OVERKILL and I thought I was bad for concidering the ST2300. Like they say....aint no substitute for cubic inches....heh! heh!
Now If I can keep the thing in one piece.
I will post some flight reports and photo's as I go.
