A good compromise plane, between the new high end ($$$$$) competition pattern types and that Tiger II:
Try the Sig King Kobra. It was designed around the older, (now considered low power) engines of the late 1970s. A modern .61 would be like putting a .72 size from that time. The King Kobra was a consistant winner in Pattern contests until the mid 1980's, and is still highly competitive for Sportsman and Intermediate level. (and capable of the Advanced... but would need a 4-stroke to be competitive.) You could also try the Kougar, which would be well powered with a .46 ball bearing type, but is structurally capable of taking a modern .61. (its just a smaller version of the King Kobra)
The kit costs on these is under $100 for either. Add your glue and covering, etc... since you already ahve the radio and engine... about $200 would leave plenty for a gallon or two of fuel.
the appearance of these planes is similar to a jet fighter.
