are you talking rtf as in put fuel in and go or arf, where you install your electronics/engine? if this is your first plane, don't worry about scale, just go for a nice basic trainer. the cheapest 40 size arfs run around $80 to $100, you really can't get much cheaper for a balsa/covered arf.
