DA100 and 3-blade props
Hi Craig,
I am currently running an Air Models 26-12 3 blade on my DA-100. I am also running KS cannister mufflers on this engine. The performance on my 27 pound RadioCraft Extra is outstanding. The prop is extremely quiet and also flies the plane very slowly and deliberately with tons of vertical. This is great for sequence (precision) flying. I have a good buddy who is flying the Air Models 25-12 3 blade on the same engine with the 2-into-1 Pefa cannister muffler system. His is a little louder and has more top end speed. He likes it better than the 26-12 for his flying style (also precision). 3-blades are usually quite a bit heavier than 2-blades which will change your CG and will also take longer to "spool up" when you jump on the throttle.
Having said that--if you are looking for straight-out performance, get yourself a 2-blade. Most are noticeably louder. The Mejlik 28-10 2 blade is a real performance MONSTER but it is extremely loud above 1/2 throttle. The Menz 26-10 2 blade is another great freestyle prop but again, it is really loud above 1/2 throttle. I haven't tried the Bambula line of 2-blades but they are said to be good, quiet props. Also take a look at MSC props--supposedly much quieter than most.
As of right now, I don't think Mejlik is making any 3-blades large enough for the DA-100.
Now that I have unloaded all of this info--I don't think the Air Models are in stock anywhere right now. Usually DA stocks them, but I don't think there are any to be had right now.
One more thing. A 3-blade prop will require more right thrust in your engine for straight uplines. I added about a degree when changing from the 2 to 3 blade. And I'm still a little short.
