Sorry for not responding I have a Calc quiz tomorrow I have been studying for along with going to work. I appoligize.
When setting a servo up I set them up 1:1 what I mean by this is that if you have a 1 inch servo arm you measure 1 inch up from the hinge line and this will be your pivot point of the control horn. On my new 40% Quique Yak I will be using 1 1/2 inch arms so from the hinge line I will make my pivot point 1 1/2 inchs up. This is really all that I have ever used when it comes to setting up servo geometry. Try this and it should work good.
As you said in your post. I would adjust for 3d rates then tone them down for precision flying.
The only reason I am using these long arms is for the elevator when it gets down elevator with 1 inch arms the control horn standoff with hit the stab.
