skin the whole side with balsa and the use the 1/8 ply doubler up front over the balsa - makes it real stiff without the hassle of fiberglass. read the review of OMP's 65" Yak here at RCU. it has pictures of exactly what you want to do. i'm building a profile Ultimate with a total fuse lenght of 90" using this same construction method.
