H9 SU-31 Test Flight
Well it finally happened. My H9 Suk finally broke ground. It took 18 oz of lead in the nose as well as moving the rudder servos mid ship and running a pull pull system. Motor a ZDZ 80 Twin. Bambula 26-10 prop pulling 5800 RPM. Servos JR 8411's on rudder and elevator with JR 8231's on the ailerons. Motor started great as usual and ranged tested for the 30th time just to be safe, idle as well as full. Taxied to the end of the runway and slowly advanced the throttle. The plane was off and flying great at 1/4 throttle. Lets trim it out Now. Two clicks right aileron, two clicks right rudder and 1/2 click up elevator (now that one is hard to find). Wow this thing is smooth. The elevator is very effective even on low rate. Do a couple passes to make sure trim is correct. Lets do a roll good two second roll on Low rate aileron. Let kick it up to mid rates on the trusty 10sxII. A little to fast for my liking on mid rate but very axial. Lets point it up and feed in the power. UP UP and UP some more. All this at 3/4 throttle. Pull the throttle back and feed in some rudder at the stall, oops gave the rudder to soon but it did end up nose down. I did a roll on the down line and pulled level. The motor started to sound a little different. I kept in the air and continued around at less than 1/4 throttle. I was talked in to bringing it in by my trusty co pilot, thanks dad (SPUCK5644). Over the runway and in reduce the throttle wow this thing just wants to fly. I finally got it to set down very gently tail first. As I was rolling out the motor stopped. Co pilot went to get the plane and check it all over. Everything checked out fine. Still have both plugs and plug wires firmly attached. I then proceeded to fly my profile for a little while before I tried to try the Suk again. This time no fire. I then pulled out the good ol Sullivan Dynatron with a Miller Reduction drive. Got the pop I was looking for with the choke on and then it would not start again. Not sure what is going on but the motor wont fire with out choke. I plan to check the carb tonight look for any problems. Overview, I would advise people not to buy this plane that way the price drops and I can buy a dozen for back ups. Ok H9 its time for a good Looking Edge to come out or reduce the Ultimate so I can put a 80 in it.
