I used the H-9 ones called for in the instruction, I believe they are 1" . The holes did not line up in the middle of the block but I thought the location was sufficiently strong for the control horn. So far I have not noticed any problems of any kind with the airplane. In the last issue of MAN I saw a company that offers aluminum arms but did not notice the name. Good luck.
