I have the 540 also with a FPE 2.4.

Hitec digitals all around, 1 on the elevator with a MK type bell crank in the rear of the fuse.

So far the plane is rock solid...I have not had much experience with 3D so I can not comment yet, however we did weigh the plane on a digital fish scale and it weighs 12.5 lbs without gas.
