Default HELP -- Kit painting question

Help,

I am building my first 'real' kit (my practice kit was a Sig Wonder -- the flying wing). Its an RV-4 and I am really taking my time on it.
I've been following the sand, sand advice but now I am stuck:

1) What is the best way to paint the ABS parts (cowl, wheel pants, etc.)? The only thing I have ever painted was a paint-by-numbes in school about 20 years ago.

2) I 'lost' two balsa stix and I had to purchase some extra balsa. I was really careful about keeping all of the die-cut parts in order but the "stix" were just put in there. I was also really careful about making sure to measure those sticks (or so I thought) and I still either used them for some other steps or they weren't packed.

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. I always said I would NEVER build a kit but I can actually see the pleasure of it and it is kind of fun and relaxing.

Thanks for all the help.

Alan
