Default Several beginning questions

I'm a newbie with several questions. I was given an old Gentle Lady and a 6-channel radio which I flew until it came apart on launch. I think I'll try the GWS Slow Stick next. Here are my questions.

Budget is an issue until I decide between electric or gas (what the heck is the glow thing everybody talks about?).

1) Can I use my big servos? I've read several places that it should work but I'm a little worried about it.

2) Can I start off by charging my flight pack with the TX side of my Futaba charger as suggested by http://www.rcbatteryclinic.com/ ? I realize this isn't the best long term solution but I just want to get back in the air and see what I think of the electric.

3) I was comfortable with the gentle lady and I have practiced with Great Planes G2 Simulator quite a bit. Am I wrong in assuming I shouldn't have any trouble with the slow stick?

4) There's a used avistar with an O.S. 40 LA for $100 at the LHS (I'm picking up the lingo pretty fast, eh?). That's plan B if I don't try electric. I mostly flew the Gentle Lady at public parks and local school practice fields. I probably won't be able to that with an avistar, correct?
