RE: Red Star RC - Russian Yak-3 Kit
Here are a few more.
I did make a change during the skinning process. The skin that goes across the top of the nose needs to bend downward significantly more than from F1 to Firewall than from F2 former to F1. The planes just say windex, form, dry and glue. I found that there was not way to get the skin to hold on the stringers and top formers from F2-F1 and the same from F1-Firewall. So referencing the 3-View drawing it seems clear to adjust the skin from F1-Firewall.
Glued the top skin securing on F2 and F1 and along the side strings and top stringer leaving the skin from F1 to Firewall unglued. Then thin CA along the top string to the skin leaving sides unglued.
I then measured the same distance from the top stringer on F1 (Firewall side) and marked (about 1!QUOT!). Drop a #2 exacto through the skin and drew straight to the firewall to split skin.
Glued the center section of the top skin down to the Firewall. Took the side section and adjusted to the stringers and removed a narrow triangle from the original cut to the firewall to relieve the warping pressure on the skin. CA's down and CA'd the skin splice together. To help fill the gaps in the skin, thick CA (light coat) then sprinkle with Micro balloons, second light coat + MB. I think it came out OK.
