Default a slightly scale approach

hey guys, i built a gasoline version of the Dumas Crackerbox. I went for a slightly patriotic theme, now i know this isnt exacly a scale boat but you guys may know, i want to put an american flag off the back. not a large one but just to get the point across. Here are my two options, i have a hunk of aluminum, and will carve it down into one of two ideas, the first is to have the pole come strait up through the hatch and make a bend to go out to the back of the boat, the second idea, is to have the pole come out the right side of the transom, with an angled mount. I plan to bea able to thread the pole into the mount i design. Which idea is better? am i clear on my plans, thanks.
