Welcome to the dark side! You must have really wanted an answer to this question bad to post it 5 times! Looks like you had a bad case of lag going on, huh.

I think you'll love heli's and if you're like me, once you get the real one in the air, all of your planes will become hanger queens! You're definitely going about it correctly starting on the sim and reading the forums. Keep it up and you'll have way fewer problems down the road.

It sounds like you've got the FMS setup right. Just make sure you've got the reversing correct on all of the channels. I've seen a lot of people get the tail backward for some reason; left stick should cause the nose to go left. The others are as the seem ... left aileron = left roll, etc.
