The covering is called Sure Seal and is made in Germany, it isn't shelf paper.
Any ways the new Vmar kits are coming out with a covering that is made in Canada and actually is clear; the graphics will be printed on the under side thus you won't be able to hurt them like you can on most of the ARF's that are out there now.
Also the production and quality control have been upgraded to help produce a better model and more designs are being released this year.
