I say go for it.

if you keep practiceing as much as you can you will be ready for the cub before its done.

I learned to fly RC on a hanger 9 80" cub that I shoehorned a saito .80 into. (waaaaaaaay too much power.... but it was fun )

also flying a cub will help get you to co-ordinate your turns (use both aileron and rudder to turn) to get you used to flying with the rudder (something i think everyone should learn)

just watch out for those nose overs on landing and taxiing (see avatar )
